Synoptic Situation
A ridge of high pressure extended across southern Qld and along the east coast
of Qld.

Strong Wind Warning
Torres Strait to Cape Grafton
Expect SE winds at 25/30 knots. Seas will reach 3 metres outside the reef and to
1.8 metres inside the reef.



The next warning will be issued by 5 am Saturday AEST.

Please be aware
Wind gusts can be a further 40 percent stronger than the averages given here,
and maximum waves may be up to twice the height.

A high cell over South Australia extended a firm ridge across southern Qld.

Winds have eased below 26 knots.

FIRE WEATHER WARNING
for the Maranoa & Warrego and Darling Downs & Granite Belt districts.
Issued at 4:02pm on Friday the 1st of August 2008
for the remainder of Friday.

Dry and windy conditions currently exist over the Maranoa & Warrego district and
are expected to develop in the Darling Downs & Granite Belt. Locally extreme
grassland fire dangers are expected for the remainder of the afternoon and early
evening.

Conditions are expected to ease tonight.

No further warnings will be issued for this event.

The Queensland Rural Fire Service advises people within these areas to expect
dangerous fire behaviour if a fire occurs and to prepare accordingly. To check

also expected to develop over the northwest Coral Sea during today. Winds are
expected to gradually ease late Thursday as the trough moves away from the coast
and the ridge weakens.
